Explore an outdoor museum, and marvel at the recreated 19th wooden houses from across Western Ukraine. In one of these very houses, you will get the chance to take a workshop in the Pysanka style of the Galician region!
Next, we’ll travel to the center of Pokuttya region and the homeland of the world biggest Easter Egg! Kolomyya is famous for being home to the World's Only Pysanka Museum! What better museum to visit on our tour?! Take your time exploring this quaint town, learning about the rich culture and traditions of this region, before taking a workshop in the traditional pysanky of this region and town.
Travelling up into the Carpathian Mountains is a sight to behold... Sweeping green forests, quaint wooden houses, ancient Hutsul churches and never-ending hills –it's hard not to feel at-one with nature when you breathe in the fresh mountain air. Explore pysanka tradition at its very roots - engage in true Hutsulschyna pysanka techniques with a workshop from a local expert, Vira Borys.
Visit the famous Kosiv Bazar, and get the chance to shop for all kinds of Easter items, from pysanky, to embroidered towels and items for your Easter basket. You’ll also take workshop in the traditional making of an Easter Basket, and learn the myths and symbolism behind each of the items! Then dive deeper into traditions, with a professional photoshoot in folk costumes at the Hutsul Gallery!
It’s finally time for the big event! You'll get to see Ukrainian Easter as it is celebrated by locals in small villages, with traditions passed down through generations. On Easter Sunday you'll attend mass in the vibrant village of Kosmach – a place famous for its pysanka traditions and artists! Partake in ancient Ukrainian rituals and dances, and sample delicious dishes prepared just for these Easter festivities.
On Easter Monday, take some down time after the excitement, with a visit to a woodcarver’s house, for a workshop in carving your own necklaces, before chilling out to write some pysanky. Bliss!
Join locals in the authentic Ukrainian village of Tulova - here the locals are keen to welcome you into their village, to show you around, to experience their culture and day to day life. Learn about their local Easter traditions, learn Easter songs and dances from the villagers, and party Tulova style – with homemade food (and vodka!) Continue to Chernivtsi in the evening.
Chernivtsi – the Capital of Bukovyna – is a cosmopolitan and multicultural city considered one of Ukraine's most important educational and architectural sites... Its spectacular University is an ancient, magical collection of buildings, which will take you back in time as you step through its doors... Take a workshop in traditional Bukovynian Pysanky with a local artist, before being blow away by the raw talent of the Gerdan folk ensemble! Enjoy a performance of well–known and ancient Ukrainian songs.
We’ll round off our Easter Journey in the same place we started - beautiful Lviv. Walk around and soak up the charm of the city, only accentuated by the holiday period. Visit the colourful Easter markets, and outdoor Pysanka Exhibit, before rounding off your visit with a peaceful afternoon writing pysanka in one of Ukraine’s most beautiful cities.
