Just the name Budapest summons up all kinds of wonderful images for me. Enjoying a beer or coffee in one of many outdoor cafes, hiking up to Castle Hill and seeing the grand view of the city. Exploring the underground mediaeval prison that once housed Vlad the Impaler “Dracula” of Transylvania.
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and has a fascinating history that is sure to impress even the well travelled. The thermal healing baths that were built during the Turkish period are a must. “The City of Baths” is very deserving of its name. I didn’t have a chance to visit but definitely plan to make a stop there on my next visit this summer.
Make a point of getting out of Budapest and experiencing some of the other Hungarian traditions in the rural village of Holloko. For me, getting out to the rural areas of a major city can be where I find the most memorable experiences.
